Ramses IX on his barge with his  entourage on his way thru to the afterlife.

Dung beetle rolling the sun from the west (sunset) around the earth to the east for the sunrise!

There were several women thru-out Egyptian history that became Pharaoh.  Hatshepsut (pronounced Hat-Ship-suit) reigned for 22 years.  She was eventually de-throned by her son. This picture is her mortuary temple.  Built while she still lived, and the place of her embalming.  She war then buried in the Valley of the Queens.  The temple was then used as a place for pilgrimages to honor her. She declared herself as the daughter of Amun, and her own deity!!

Statues of Hatshepsut.  Pharaohs always promoted themselves in their mortuary temples!

The tomb of King Tut and his Sat

King Tut’s mummy.

Nefertiti playing a game that looks very much like chess.

The tomb of Queen Nerfatairi.  This  tomb and that of King Tut were the most vividly painted.    Stunning!

It wasn’t that claustrophobic!  The access ways were like hallways.  And once in the tombs the rooms were similar to living rooms.  A couple of the tombs has rather steep stairways to access the burial chambers, others, just sloping gradually.

Joann is elevator-phobic.  So I was a bit worried for her.  But she had no problem other than the heat.  Lots of people in small rooms.  The tombs were warm.
